A bit of fan art I forgot to post. I love when Arakawa uses the circle-eyes for Hawkeye, something she usually reserves for her non-human characters (and especially poignant when applied to Hawkeye as a sniper). Though she is not as high profile as Roy, Riza has done her share of heavy stuff and gained her own kind of infamy.

This is not from episode 2, but the “Simple People” special, which pretty much follows the manga’s dialogue between these two. This moment was cut short in episode 2, only to be fully realized in the OVA! I was so happy, lemme tell you.
I really love that a consistent thing about Riza is she’s really honest and forthright. She doesn’t lie to kids. Here she is laying the hard truth about herself and her decisions to an eleven year old girl, because this girl has lost her parents and has a right to know. It was the same when Ed asked about Ishval- Riza told it to him straight. Riza knows it is a lot crueler to hide the hard truths of the world from kids, because it’s stuff that has alreay touched them and it just means it will be harder for them when they realize later. And that also shows when Roy lies to the kids about Hughes and Riza’s like “No. That was not a nice thing to do. That is cruel. They’re going to find out, and now it’s going to hurt a lot more because you hid it from them and they deserve to know.” She tells it like it is.
I just love her <3. She’s got it goin’ on.
